The sort of mindsent that perpetuates and excuses abuse.Maiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17212711843307060731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8770341086445997547.post-67761993232478072892008-07-18T15:00:00.000+12:002008-07-18T15:00:00.000+12:00Yes, it's important that men be able to speak abou...Yes, it's important that men be able to speak about their emotions - but isn't Maia's point that in Veitch's comment he shows it's all about him? Eg, the silver lining is not that counselling has helped him become less dangerous to women, but that it's prevented him from being lonely?Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06076244041878300351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8770341086445997547.post-31182974928678860772008-07-18T13:39:00.000+12:002008-07-18T13:39:00.000+12:00To recap: Intimate abuse happens everywher... by t...To recap: Intimate abuse happens everywher... by the richest, and the poorest and everyone in between.

While I feel what you're saying is true, I think it's worth saying that there is a link between poverty and domestic violence. Although it could be argued it's just more widely reported among the poor.

I'm not sure if you're quoting Veitch approvingly or not, Maia, I suspect not. It saddens me to see that it took such an act of violence to get Veitch to realise there was something wrong with him. One of the biggest problems of masculine culture, IMO, is the idea that talking about one's emotions, particularly with a professional but also with a partner, is somehow stupid.DPF:TLDRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06372937855256319716noreply@blogger.com
