Still kind of inconsistent with the claim that 'women should be trusted to make their own decisions'.

Reject Cultural Relativism but support subjectivism (moral autonomy). How is this consistent?

There's a very strong thread through these posts of 'we should have moral autonomy--but only as long as you agree with my moral values'.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8770341086445997547.post-58699541175992062832010-07-20T19:40:16.819+12:002010-07-20T19:40:16.819+12:00lol, no, Anonymous - read again. She said that in order to change the pattern of female foeticide, you need to change the value of women in a culture, not make judgements on the individual women and families who make those decisions.Tuihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11028316277815052897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8770341086445997547.post-17168855925959071572010-07-20T17:10:44.611+12:002010-07-20T17:10:44.611+12:00This is inconsistent with the argument that 'w...This is inconsistent with the argument that 'women should be trusted to make their own decisions'. You do not respect the decisions of Chinese and Indian women. If this is unacceptable to you, you need a different argument justifying the immorality of female foeticide. Then again, you could always resort to the arguments George Bush used in attempt to justify the imposition of 'democracy' on sovereign nations. They usually amount to 'I know better than you do what is best for you'--just the argument pro-choice people despise when used against abortion.

And, by the way, the term 'homicide' carries no moral meaning. Is is used to refer to the killing of one human being by another. 'Murder', however, is a moral/legal term, referring to wrongful killing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8770341086445997547.post-4829467385277281222008-06-24T08:25:00.000+12:002008-06-24T08:25:00.000+12:00So let me get this clear - you would be comfortabl...So let me get this clear - you would be comfortable with somebody making a moral judgement on a young woman who has a series of abortions? Isn't that blaming the victim?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
