Feminist Events: Tessa Duder's New Book

Renowned as one of NZ's most brilliant writers for children, Tessa Duder has written a wonderful, wise collection of short stories for adults. Providing powerful protraits of older women, the answer to the title question Is She Still Alive? is defiantly "Yes!". Join with Tessa in the bookshop to celebrate the energy, guts and individuality of mature women.

Date: Tuesday 6 May
Venue: The Women's Bookshop, 105 Ponsonby Rd, Auckland
Details: Wine & nibbles 6pm; Tessa reading & talking 6.30pm. Entry by donation at the door.
Duder was one of the authors who shaped my feminism as a girl, particularly through the Alex series and Night Race to Kawau (which I loved so much I even invented a pretty mediocre board game about). Long may she write!

If you have a feminist event that you would like The Hand Mirror to promote please feel free to contact us and we will put it up (as long as it is in New Zealand somewhere).

Alex was SUCH a fantastic role model to have growing up. I met Tessa Duder a couple of years ago because she was a workmate's mum, and I was just such a blabbering idiot in her presence, trying to thank her for her books. She took it very graciously, of course.
