Breaking News: Starbuck at no. 5 on Act list!

Everytime I consider who might be no. 5 on Act's list (will it be Jim Hopkins? He seems to think not) my mind wanders back to the last episode of season 3 of Battlestar Galactica...

Feel free to indulge in mindless, or indeed mindful, conversation about the wondrousness of BSG, however those who have not yet ventured into the delightful realm of the torrents (or do not possess friends who have visited China) may wish to avert their eyes lest they ruin their Wednesday nights.

Surely its Baltar? He'd fit right in in ACT...

I never actually watched BSG. But during both my pregnancies I was so enormous and uncomfortable that I nicknamed myself Battle Star Sciatica.

I can't see Starbuck as part of ACT to be honest. What about the last ep made you think that?

But yeah, Baltar. Or Number 2 (the one that kept Starbuck locked in his flat for 3 months).

Or they could always take Number 5 ;-)

SPOILER ALERT:

I was more thinking of the whole secret cylons and the bit at the end where Starbuck reappears to Apollo, with the suggestion that she is the still unknown mystery cylon... Not her character or values or politics.

In general I agree that Baltar would be the most Act-like. I so wish we had a real life Roslin, sigh. Except for that episode about abortion, although even then I could understand her thinking even though I think she made the wrong choice.

Vote Roslin or she'll throw you out the airlock?

There's a society which could arguably be described as post-feminist. No issues with women's access to political power, religion or the military (the only career structures we see), and socialised childcare that allows women to carry on with their careers, etc. On the other hand, small issue with sexual violence as a weapon of war amongst the crew of the Pegasus, and a tendency to ditch any personal freedoms (including reproductive) for the sake of society. Interesting, alright.

Tyrol and Helo would be on the left of the political spectrum, but I see Starbuck and Tigh as righties.

The cigar-smoking, anti-authority Starbuck is almost certainly a libertarian. Baltar, with his enthusiasm for appeasement, strikes me as more of a lefty type. :)
