Oh China.

You'd think that someone would have sent you a memo on lip syncing after the Milli Vanilli incident. If you decide to lip sink, it automatically gets out. And sure enough it did. Lin Miaoke, the little girl on the left was selected to 'perform' at the last minute because Yang Peiyi, the little girl on the right, was deemed a good singer but not cute enough to put on stage.

Apparently this last minute change was at the behest of one of these fine-looking fellows from China's Politburo.

It was clear that she was lip-synching from the get-go... was I the only one unsurprised?

Actually I didn't bother watching. But again wasn't surprised.

I don't want to buy into cutist arguments, but I actually thought the original we girl was cute!

You got the left/right thing the wrong way round.

I didn't realise til reading this that it was politburo involvement that got them switched - thats even more ridiculous than a planned lip-sync...

You'd think that with 1.2 billion people that they're supposedly ensuring the welfare of the Chinese leadership could find something else worthy of their attention.

And yes, you've got the left/right thing the wrong way around

Oh yes, and personally I find any of the Politburo members cuter than either of the little girls.

Except that from all I've heard, it hardly "got out" so much as one of the people in charge announced it in order to give credit where credit was due to the girl whose voice was used.

It's hardly rounding up the homeless of Atlanta and driving them outside the city limits.

I can't help wondering why this is such a big news item. Is it a case of the western media liking to undermine China?

It's not as if the English language MSM is against using "cute" females of all ages t promote themselves.

@ideo I agree that China the western media seems to have an orgasim anytime something goes wrong.

@ Carol. You are right. Though apperance is a far bigger deal in Asia not just in the media but society in general. In South Korea a common gift for high school seniors is eye-lid surgery to give the girls more western looking eyes.
