I <3 Hayley

Ok I'm not so much of a fan of her music, but I'll give the songstress some blog love for giving the finger to music execs to requests to sex up her image to boost sales. In a world where female singers are routinely told to lose weight and then lose their clothes in order to boost sales, it takes some gumption to tell them to sod off. But it seems so fucked in the head that the record execs would even be making that request given her fan base tends to be *cough* older people plus some younger kids. Are they lazy or just plain stupid?

Hmmm, I wonder why they chose that particular picture??

Do I hear "Both of the above?"

Hayley, should do what she wants.

If she wants to stay the way she is or if she wants a different image the choice is up to her.

I remember the pressure on a young Leeann Rimes to go the way of Britney and Christina and she refused, hats off to both of them.

I am very impressed by this. However, the flip side of that equation is...

If she wanted to dress what could be considered tarty, but her producers says no because it would alienate her fanbase, that would bother me just as much. (That is, both the producers and the fans would bother me). Luckily, that situation is likely to never eventuate.

(On an unrelated, snobby-music-elitist note: Whilst I have no issue with Hayley having a successful singing career and making millions of people happy, I take exception to her winning a Classical music award. She is not a classical singer - and calling her one is an insult to those who do years of hard work and training to become classical singers. She has a lovely voice, no doubt, but she's simply not a classical singer.)

Agreed.

In fact the cynic in me thinks that this spat with her management may be manufactured. Westenra never struck me as somebody who was designed to appeal to the teenage boy crowd, quite the reverse in fact, so her publicly proclaiming what a 'good girl' (TM) she is may just be a marketing tactic.

Never thought of it like that Hugh, a lot of artists use the clean cut image to their advantage, eg: Miley Cyrus, Cliff Richard.

Haley seems to be the type of artist who knows her base and isnt going to change.
