A new report out in Britain called 'A Good Childhood' makes for some interesting reading. The report, commissioned by the Church of England-affiliated Children’s Society paints a sad picture of the children of Britain, the country has some of the worst rates of child unhappiness, poverty, family breakdown and child violence in the western world. And the cause of this misery?
Women apparently.
Firstly because women have the audacity to work outside the home, they aren't spending enough time with the kids and all have all this new-fangled economic independence. This economic independence has made women much less dependent on their male partner which causes the family to break-up and we all know that this is the end of the world as we know it as children whose parents have separated suffer long term damage reflected in lower results at school, poor self esteem, behavioural difficulties and depression.
However apparently the true cause of such problems is not family break-up itself but the fact that one parent is often left in poverty after a separation. A Unicef study published in 2007 showed that children in Scandinavian countries appeared happier than their British counterparts despite similar levels of family separation.
