International Women's Day (or IWD, or IWWD when you put the "working" in) has been on the feminist calendar since the first one was held in 1911. It's a public holiday in Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria.Here's a listing of events in our country, Aotearoa New Zealand, to celebrate on or around March 8th:

Thanks for that, Brett - you've reminded me of the movie 'Norma Rae'. Although she's not a real person, she was apparently based on a composite of different female unionists in the southern states of the US.
i know hamilton city is putting on a day-long event on 6 march but don't know if it's open to the public...
we'll have rosslyn noonan, chief human rights commissioner, and hon pansy wong speaking, amongst others.

I thought you’d also like to know that Amnesty UK is focusing on violence against women for International Women’s Day. We’re asking people to change their Facebook status, Myspace headline and tweet to raise awareness of the fact that each year, around 1 in 10 women in Britain experience rape or other violence.

This Sunday, 8th of March is International Womyn's Day. Auckland Anarcha-feminists are putting on a film screening to fundraise for the upcoming national anarcha-feminist hui. There'll be games and cupcakes after!
