Good luck raising that gender-neutral child

There is an article called "Good luck raising that gender-neutral child" over at Salon that explores ideas of gender development in children.

The article starts with the following interesting anecdote:
A Swedish couple has refused to reveal the sex of their 2-year-old to anyone -- except those on diaper duty. When word got out about their decision to eschew personal pronouns and sex-appropriate clothing, the parents made international headlines. The mother explained her thinking to the press: "It's cruel to bring a child into the world with a blue or pink stamp on their forehead."
The Salon article, however, is focussed on discussing physiological and psychological differences between boy and girl children based on recent studies of children.
