Adventures in gingerbread

Really enjoying this season of Doctor Who (watching it as it shows up on Prime so please no spoilers from beyond A Good Man Goes To War aka the episode when we find out who Riversong is)

Here, in honour of Amy and Rory and Riversong and oh yeah, that doctor guy, is a gingerbread tardis.  You can read the story of it's manufacture, along with pics of the process, here.

There may be SPOILERS in comments, depending on where you are up to yourself, so please indulge with suitable caution.  I certainly intend to discuss in a bit more detail the Riversong identity revelation.

So that whole Riversong as the child of Amy and Rory thing? Did people think the "Melody Pond" name was too obvious? I spoiled it for myself by inadvertently reading ahead, but still found the revelation scene itself quite powerful.

If anybody has spoilers from beyond A Good Man Goes To War they're obviously indulging in a bit of time travel themselves, since it's the last episode to have aired!

I'm a little disappointed about River being their kid; it was in many ways the most obvious explanation (at least since the "Doctor's wife" was nixed).

Oh no! I thought there was still quite a bit to go in this series, sadface. I did wonder though where they were going to go in the next episode given the Doctor ran off in the tardis leaving the rest on Demon's Run.

The Doctor's Wife episode was great btw. Does that make Riversong the Doctor's mistress?

Julie - it's a split series: the rest of the season comes out next year.

That is so cruel. There better be a Christmas special.

What do you mean a split series - are you telling me that there is no Dr Who Thursday this week on Prime?! Nooooo - that is probably one of the few tv programmes I await with baited breath!

If there isn't a Christmas special anoraks will riot. But I've heard that there may not be a series next year.

Anyone else twig to the possibility that Riversong was actually going to be the first female Doctor regeneration....?

Can't say how I know this....;-)

Last I heard the rest of this season screens (in the UK) in a few months, after season 4 of Torchwood. And the following season of DW will be split in half again, but will be late-2012/early-2013 instead of early-2012/late-2012. I hope they've got something special in the works for the 50th anniversary in late 2013!

Yes, I found the Melody Pond name to be a bit of a giveaway.

Spybott, wouldn't the fact that River didn't regenerate when she died in her first appearance tend to imply that she's not a Time Lord?

One theory I heard was that she was a positive mirror image to The Dreamlord, The Doctor's psychic tormentor in Season five who he wrote off as a manifestation of psychic pollen whom a lot of people think was much more than that. Now that that theory's been disproven, the nature of the Dreamlord is still up for grabs. I'll say only this: Valeyard.

If Riversong was the first female Doctor regeneration then that would mean he/she was having sex with her/himself...

Well to be fair, we don't know that Doctor-River sex is in the future. It's actually an open question as to whether Time Lords have sex at all.

It is now canon that Time Lords can change sexes when regenerating but it seems it's comparatively rare (The fact that The Doctor felt the need to point out that The Corsair changed sex implies that it was one of the things that made The Corsair unusual, although he didn't seem to disapprove)
