Bristol said telling her parents she was pregnant was "harder than labour".Levi and her best friend went with her to break the news.
"I was just so sick to my stomach. And so finally, my best friend just, like, blurted it out," she said.
Bristol also said it bothered her to hear that many people thought her mother was making her have the baby, when it was her own choice.
The governor also appeared in the interview, recorded on Saturday in Fairbanks.
She said she was proud of her daughter, "wanting to take on an advocacy role and, you know, just let other girls know that this is - it's not the most ideal situation, but certainly, make the most of it," Sarah Palin said.
"And Bristol is a strong and bold young woman and she is an amazing mum. And this little baby is very lucky to have her as a mama. He's going to be just fine."
I wasn't very impressed with Palin senior during the US election campaign, but it's great that she's backing her child so strongly.

Shouldn't the tag for this be "sprogging" not "not sprogging"?
I thought Palin Snr a dull, ill-educated fantasist but I agree she's at least a parent who's prepared to support her kids even if they do things she'd rather they didn't. That's commendable regardless of her politics etc.
I'm glad Palin has taken this stand - but I wonder if she's so understanding when other people's kids get knocked up? ie what it her voting record on relevant issues?
I'd also like to see how supportive she would have been if her daughter had opted for an abortion. Most of the right wing christians I know, while they don't approve of pre-marital sex, they are a lot more violently opposed to abortion.
I suppose it's easy to support someone if you think they are making the right decision.
You'd have treated her better through the campaign if she was a Democrat. Be honest about it please.
Sarah got investigated by the press and sneering left wing blogs than the current President, who is already showing he perhaps should have been looked at as carefully as they did Sarah.
Mary-Lou I'm not sure that you were reading this blog during the campaign? If so you might have noticed that our very first post about Palin was pointing out the inappropriate sexism of many of the attacks on her. I later wrote about how a woman candidate does not necessarily equal a feminist candidate, put up a Sarah Haskin's video which is mostly about making fun of those upset that Clinton was beaten by Obama , and there were a few other posts that mentioned Palin here too, but not really that many and none of them the kind of vicious sneering you seem to be looking for imho.
And Paul the tag is both sprogging and not sprogging because in part this is a story not just about teenagers having children, it's also about them not having children, if that makes sense.

Well, she doesn't really have a voting record per se, but as Governor of Alaska, she cut funding for a halfway house for teenage mothers in half. A lot of the feminist blogs noted the disparity between this and her attitude to her own daughter at the time. So, uh: not great.
Palin contradicts herself at every turn, her record is dispicable for almost everything I hold dear, including women's rights, animal rights, environmental and social welfare. A large number of folk that have the misfortune of being 'governed' by her are right now starving in rural Western Alaska, due to strong weather and zero planning and action taken by Palin. She seems to be busy hawking herself (and her family) to media, and ignoring the plight of her people.
The excellent Mudflats blog has all the awful info on Palin that you could ever not want to know.
