The Okahu Bay (Auckland) Waitangi Day Festival:While personally I wasn't that uncomfortable feeding in front of others, from the time Wriggly was about four months old, this is a fantastic move from the organisers. Big progress from when my mum was turned away by the St John's people at the Boat Show back in the late 1970s, and told to find a toilet to breastfeed me instead.
In 1841 Ngati Whatua o Orakei welcomed Governor Hobson at Okahu Bay and gifted him all of the land now known as Auckland's CBD. Okahu Bay is once again a site of celebration,168 years on. This alcohol, smoke free, breastfeeding friendly family event is enriched with tradition, culture, food, art and live entertainment. A tent will be available for breastfeeding mothers. Please pass the word on it would be fabulous to have the tent full of mums.(my emphasis added.)
