Feminist Event: Metiria Turei at Drinking Liberally in Wellington this week

From the Facebook event listing:
Date:
Thursday 09 April 2009
Time:
from 5.30pm
Location:
The Southern Cross
Street:
Abel Smith Street
Town/City:
Wellington, New Zealand

Metiria Turei has been a Green MP since 2002 and is currently one of three contenders for the upcoming election of female co-leader of the Greens.

Metiria's focus has been on Conservation, Maori, and Education issues and we're sure she'll touch on some of these topics on the night. With a tag line like "Could the Marxist-Leninist Anarcha-Feminist Maori Nationalist Random Trollop please EXPLAIN!" we're sure it will be all encompassing!

We'll start at 5:30pm, Thursday April 9th, and Metiria will speak from 6pm - stick around afterwards for a drink and a chat.
It was great to see Metiria at the Auckland Hand Mixer recently, and I wish I could be in Welly on Thursday to hear her speak.

As this is the first woman Wellington's chapter has had, and she's an overt feminist, it'd be great to see a lot of women turn out for this to encourage Drinking Liberally in Wellington to continue to seek female speakers.

(In related news, Auckland's chapter is currently finalising a speaker for later in the month).
