Say it ain't so

Christine Rankin has been appointed the new Families Commissioner. I don't really care about her earrings nor if she's been married more than once. But I do care that she headed up a trust set up by an Auckland businessman to that amongst other things has been campaigning against the removal of section 59 and also helping the vile family first with their referendum.

Urgh.

I choked on my porridge when I heard this on the news this morning.

The other commissioner is Bruce Pilbrow of Parents Inc, an organisation that supports families while espousing "Judeo-Christian" values.

Guess we have an idea of what sort of families they'll be supporting.

All families, I guess....

She's not THE Families commisioner though- she's on the board. Newstalk ZB miss-announced her as THE Commissioner (i.e Rajen's old job)- she's part of the board but doesn't hold the key role.

I can't believe this - it makes an absolute mockery of the Families
Commission (although it does return it to United Future's original conservative vision).

This is great news, Rankin will bring a non PC perspective to what is basically a waste of tax payer money.
One can only hope that after the next election Key does away with this ministry completely (along with numerous others)

So Bruv, I'm guessing you'd like to see that tax payer money shovelled into winning formulas like the prison system?

Yeah, because prevention isn't worth an ounce of justice.

The Families Commission is not a ministry, bruv.

Here's The Standard's post on the matter too, which points out Rankin's less than progressive attitude towards Maori.

Nonny

I want to see many things change under a Nat/ACT govt, toughening up on prisons and the removal of this PC nonsense are just a few of them.

One day we may even be able to have a look at the abortion issue again and clear that mess up once and for all.

Ah, speaking of wasting taxpayers' money, does anyone remember Rankin in her role at WINZ, when she organised a luxury lodge conference costing over $200k for managers at a time of unemployment? She's not really a model of prudent spending, Bruv.

Anna

I do remember that, I also remember the way she went after long term bludgers and people ripping off the benefit system.
I also like the way she wants to see the government crack down on DPB beneficiaries.

The fact remains that she ran WINZ in a professional manner, she saved the tax payer a truck load of money, we need more like her.

Ah yes, "PC Nonsense" - code for "social measures that are in the too hard basket, and would rather fix them at the other end when the person is too broken for us to give a stuff about, so we chuck 'em in prison and throw away the key."

Oh but excuse my liberal bleeding PC nonsense lovin' heart. Governing social measures is more than just making a handful of laws and expecting people to abide by them.

Haha good one Bruv! She spent a plane load of money too...

I've always been concerned about people like Rankin. Sure being a teenage mother who works her way to the top is admirable, but she has no university education and by getting pregnant as a teenager shows poor judgement.

People like Rankin need to keep quiet and let their betters to the job.

Only National would consider an ill educated and politically inappropriate person for any important position.

Saving money, being accountable and getting people off welfare is not acceptable in the world of the left winger. If there was a focus towards this, the Labour and the left vote would collapse.

Everybody knows that Labour policies were to trap people into welfare so they couldn't afford to go to work as they were dependent on welfare. If more people paid taxes and worked they would appreciate the value of their wages more. It's so sad that the poor are manipulated for votes but it keeps these guys in jobs doesn't it?

stargazer said...

very funny, mary, quite hilarious actually. if labour wanted to keep people off welfare, how did they manage to get about 150,000 people off it during their term? and how did they bring unemployment numbers to just over 20,000, get a decrease in numbers on the DPB? and no, they didn't all go on to the sickness benefit, because the numbers on that benefit went up about 20,000 compared to the overall reduction of about 150,000.

but why let the facts get in the way of your fanatical beliefs right?

the way to reduce benefit numbers is not by withholding benefits and letting people starve. it's by getting them into training, and having strong employment policies that create jobs. which is what labour did, and what the current government is failing to do.

Anonymous said...

Nonsense, even Tizard made light of the fact that the numbers went up again near the end.

Oh and the manipulation of DPB and unemployment figures into sickness/invalid benefits - making NZ one of the sickest countries in the world. Hmmmn.

stargazer said...

anon, read my comment again. the sickness benefits went up about 20,000. in the same period total beneficiaries went down by about 150,000. that means they were. not. on. a. benefit.

and yes, unemployment went up a little last year - there was global financial crisis on, that you seem to have missed. but they have become very much worse under this government, because the government has totally failed to put in place any policies that will create jobs. on the other hand, they have been busy cutting jobs where they can.

at this point, i can only conclude that you are trolling: you fail to provide facts, you fail to read the comments before you, you fail to put up any kind of logic. continue in this fashion and your comments will be deleted.

Oh boo hoo! Get over yourself you stupid stupid woman.

i'm going to leave this here because it shows what a total lack of ability you have to provide any coherent argument when presented with facts. so you resort instead to abuse.

any future abusive comments will be deleted. this is a space for adults to debate issues and we don't allow childish name-calling here.
