A new lhow

This quote this morning:
"If we gave $10,000 to certain people and said 'we'll voluntarily sterilise you' then all of society would be better off. There'd be less dead children and less social problems.

"Do we really expect these children to become doctors or brain surgeons?"
Guess who?

I am APPALLED by these statements. The hundreds of comments agreeing with him sent me over the edge.

This? THIS is our New Zealand? Our Ghood Friend belongs in the British National Party.

How has our society got so comfortable, lazy and so lacking in critical thinking that there's a generation who think it's ok to talk and think like this? I'm starting to become very wary and afraid of the power the baby boomers are wielding. I can only hope the spirit of younger generations won't be broken by the financial, social and legal power this older generation wields, and think that the only way to defeat them is become them.

Contemptable, vile bigot. Why do we let people still serve office after blatant attacks like this?

Sounding suspisciously Michael Lawsish?

Just checked and mannnn I wish it wasn't so obvious. The man is such a fucking moron. A dangerous moron.

Sad to hear that people agreed with him :(

And to think of the furore in response to the Auckland Grammer Students.
I'm struggling to see the difference between that and this - except this is maybe more dangerous.

I SOOOO want to hear how he plans to categorise "certain people" - what an arse.

I am so angry, I feel like taking NZ by the lapels and giving them a good shake.

What the fuck is wrong with you people? How can you say this is ok? You have plenty to say about China's old One Child policy, yet when we chuck down eugenics for our country, you think it's the fucking shit?

For the love of all things holy, who has the power to fire this moron!

Man, I'd take that $10,000 and the sterilisation any day.

A Nonny Moose, I'm feeling the same way; it is just utterly horrifying to think that Laws is considered utterly mainstream by a large proportion of the population. Completely devoid of critical thinking or historical understanding.

I'm beginning to suspect that Stuff is loving the attention the article is generating, and is shaping the discussion by leaving out oppositional argument. I've tried putting in 2 or 3 comments denouncing the behaviour of Laws and the commentators, but they haven't made it through.

You can't tell me that "all" or "the majority" of NZ thinks like this - it smacks of intentional trolling AND Stuff is clearly ignoring their own T&Cs on commenting, which are supposed to not allowing the inciting of hatred against race/class etc.

Please please someone in parliament/Labour/Greens speak out against this deplorable BS.

Oh, but he has a point. After all, my partner is only studying for his Masters in computer science, so clearly society's investment in him and his mother has been a total waste. If he really wanted to overcome being the child of a beneficary, he'd have gone into medicine.

Roflcopters. I'm loving the massive back pedal now. "What! Me? Noooo....that silly reporter totally misquoted me. There ya go again you bad little media, getting me all wrong."

Ha! Oh lookies, it's the "I'm sorry...that you feel that way" bingo!

Apparently Lhaws is now claiming he never said it...

What a load of bullshit. Laws definitely said that. It completely fits with everything else he's ever said. That statement is just him. He has always been a pig.

Yeah blame the journalist. Typical.

Well he is right there are people who should never be able to have children. I come across them almost every day and believe me most of you would be sick if you saw some of the apalling abuse of children that i see.

Yes Simon, but in NZ today you cannot have a point of view that doesn't include throwing vast sums of money at it and protecting them with PC lefty hugs.

Laws is a fucking idiot, but it isn't an altogether terrible idea. God knows why taxpayers should be funding beneficaries to breed when they cannot support themselves, let alone bring up a well adjusted child. Some families cannot justify having 8+ children while living on benefit, surrounded by gangs and living in substandard state houses and I would love to see somebody here try prove this wrong.

Ten grand is a joke. They'd probably do it for two.

Oh yes, FSM forbid educating, nurturing and supporting your "underclass" take anything like time, money or even *gasp* empathy.

ur benufisheries - in teh two hard basket. Us uppah class peons so much moar wurthwhile. We dun abuse our kids, nosiree.

Anonymous said...

Anon trolls - How were you planning on deciding who gets to have children? Was that going to be just based on 'class' or was race going to be a part of it? What about people of a certain religion? Is anyone on a beneficiary included in your Nazi plan?

I'm guessing so if you think people who live in 'sub standard housing' should get their kids taken away from them instead of getting access to good housing. Who thinks like that? Seriously.

Lhaws is doing a santorum. Look that up.

As I understand it, Laws' suggestion would leave us short of one Prime Minister at present. Wasn't Key raised by a solo mum in a state house?
